Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is Uganda’s national electricity distribution utility, headquartered in Kampala, responsible for distributing power to homes and businesses across the country. Official organisation information.

UEDCL is recruiting a Database Administrator in its Information Communication Technology department, reporting to the Senior Database Administrator. The mission is to administer, secure and optimise UEDCL’s enterprise databases so that critical business data services stay reliable, recoverable and high-performing.

• Install, configure, administer, maintain and upgrade enterprise database platforms.
• Monitor availability, health, jobs, query performance, storage, replication and capacity.
• Configure and verify backups, point-in-time recovery, restoration and DR tests.
• Support high availability, replication and failover.
• Apply approved patches, upgrades, hardening and vulnerability remediation.
• Administer accounts, roles and permissions under least privilege and segregation of duties.
• Protect confidentiality, integrity and availability through encryption, retention, access and audit controls.
• Support customer transaction/vending, billing, ERP and integration databases.
• Support development, test and production environments and controlled migrations.
• Diagnose incidents, perform root-cause analysis and support major incidents.
• Perform capacity planning, indexing, query analysis and performance optimisation.
• Maintain inventories, baselines, runbooks, backup schedules, recovery procedures and dependency maps.
• Prepare health, backup, availability, capacity, incident and security reports.

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related.
• Minimum 2 years’ hands-on production enterprise-database administration, preferably high availability/mission-critical.
• Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• SQL, query optimisation, performance diagnostics, backup/recovery, replication, HA/DR, database security, RBAC, encryption, audit logging, patch/change control, Linux/Unix, Windows Server, storage/network/virtualisation and technical documentation.
• SAP HANA experience and relevant certification are advantages.
