About The Company
TotalEnergies EP Uganda is the operator of the Tilenga Project, located mainly in the Buliisa and Nwoya Districts of the Lake Albert region. TotalEnergies holds 56.6% of the project, in partnership with CNOOC and the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC). Tilenga involves developing six oil fields and drilling about 420 wells from 29 locations, with production piped to a central processing facility at Kasenyi. At full capacity, the project is designed to produce 190,000 barrels of oil per day, which will be exported through the 1,443 km East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) to the port of Tanga in Tanzania.
About The Role
The Material Analyst sits within the Contracts & Procurement Direction, supporting the Drilling Division, and reports to the SAP & Stock Senior Engineer. The core job is stock control: making sure every stock item has the right parameters so the operation never runs out of critical materials, while also avoiding expensive overstock. The analyst keeps the stock database accurate, ensures financial and physical stock match, and drives optimisation actions such as cost avoidance, dead stock reduction, and stock level tuning.
Day to day, the role works with Technical Administrators (TADMs) on Material Master Forms, owns the quality of SAP Material Master creations, plans replenishment using SAP Material Requirements Planning, and runs regular physical-versus-system inventory checks with Logistics and the Warehouse. The analyst also manages all Contracts & Procurement stock transactions in SAP, controls materials returned from drilling activities, and supports partner inventory audits. It suits someone who understands drilling operations and is comfortable living inside SAP.
Key Responsibilities
Main Accountabilities
- Ensure that all stock items and their parameters are set to optimum levels, avoiding both overstock and zero stock.
- Ensure physical stock replenishment and availability in accordance with set parameters.
- Guarantee the accuracy and updating of the stock database.
- Ensure that financial and physical stocks match each other.
- Identify, recommend, and participate in all stock optimisation actions, including cost avoidance savings, stock reduction, and optimisation of stock levels.
Main Missions
- Coordinate with Technical Administrators (TADM) for correct data input in Material Master Forms (MMF), complying with group recommendations on short and long descriptions and classification, with HSE and QA/QC requirements embedded.
- Ensure consistency and quality of SAP Material Master creations for all materials (stock and non-stock items), and support the Key User for material management in SAP and BW.
- Manage planning for stock materials replenishment to ensure availability for operational requirements, avoid material shortages, optimise stock levels, and reduce surplus.
- Work closely with Logistics and the Warehouse to check physical inventory against SAP regularly, identify discrepancies, and launch corrective actions promptly.
- Initiate and coordinate with TADMs for regular dead stock reduction.
- Coordinate with TADMs on replenishment proposed by Material Requirements Planning (MRP) in SAP for material optimisation, cost avoidance, and stock savings.
- Assist with partners’ inventory audits at the warehouses.
- Manage all Contracts & Procurement stock transactions in SAP.
- Control the various returned materials from drilling activities and liaise with Finance and TADMs for their reintegration.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of international experience in managing Drilling & Wells related materials, with a good understanding of Drilling Service field operations.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of drilling materials and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of inventory control and materials management processes.
- Understanding of material specification, certification, and verification processes.
- Understanding of the interfaces between the materials function, user departments, and Technical Administrators.
- Good interpersonal and analytical skills.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- SAP Materials Management: Hands-on use of SAP for material master data, stock transactions, MRP-driven replenishment, and reporting through BW.
- Inventory Control: Setting stock parameters, running physical counts, reconciling system and physical stock, and closing discrepancies quickly.
- Drilling & Wells Materials: Working knowledge of drilling materials, their specifications, and how they are used in field operations.
- Material Certification & Verification: Understanding of how material specifications, certificates, and QA/QC checks are applied before materials enter stock.
- Stock Optimisation: Ability to spot dead stock, surplus, and cost avoidance opportunities, and push them through to action.
Soft Skills
- Analytical Thinking: Comfortable working through stock data to find root causes of variances and shortages.
- Interpersonal Skills: Able to work smoothly with Technical Administrators, Logistics, Warehouse, Finance, and user departments.
- Attention to Detail: Careful with master data quality, descriptions, and classifications, since small errors create big stock problems.
- Coordination: Able to manage several interfaces at once and keep replenishment moving to match drilling schedules.
- Integrity: Trusted to handle stock records and partner audits with full transparency.
Benefits
The advert does not disclose salary or benefits. The main draw is the experience itself: working on the drilling side of the Tilenga Project, inside TotalEnergies’ SAP and materials management standards, gives you exposure that is rare in the Ugandan market and transferable to oil and gas operations worldwide. The role also offers direct involvement in partner inventory audits and stock optimisation work on one of East Africa’s largest energy developments.
Why Apply
- Work for TotalEnergies on the Tilenga Project, Uganda’s flagship oil development with about 420 wells planned.
- Sit at the heart of the drilling campaign, where material availability directly affects rig time and project cost.
- Build deep SAP Materials Management and BW experience in a well-governed, group-standard environment.
- Gain exposure to partner inventory audits involving TotalEnergies, CNOOC, and UNOC.
- Own stock optimisation work, with visible results in cost avoidance and dead stock reduction.
- Work closely with Technical Administrators, Logistics, Warehouse, and Finance, building a broad network across the project.
- Strengthen a career path into senior SAP, stock, or supply chain roles in the oil and gas sector.
