Hariss International Limited is one of Uganda’s leading food and beverage manufacturers. Since 2005 it has traded under the flagship brand RIHAM, growing to more than 80 products across carbonated soft drinks, natural mineral water, fruit juices, malt and energy drinks, biscuits and sweets. Household names include Rockboom energy drink, Oner fruit juice, Skyview sodas and Krystal natural mineral water.

In 2020, Oppenheimer Partners, a global investment firm with deep African roots, acquired a controlling stake in the business, partnering with the founder. The company has since moved into a modern manufacturing plant at Tula, near Mpererwe in Kampala, with some of the region’s most advanced beverage lines and large confectionery production lines.

The SAP Functional Specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining and optimising the Hariss SAP modules. You will analyse business processes, configure system settings and translate user requirements into technical specifications, bridging the gap between the business and technical teams through documentation, testing, training and support. You will also monitor system performance and act when issues arise.

The role reports to the Head of IT and works closely with Hariss’s SAP AMC (application management) vendor, making sure the vendor meets agreed SLAs. Hariss runs FI/CO, HCM, MM, PP, PM, QA, SD and SAP Analytics Cloud, and each functional specialist is assigned specific modules. Deep FI/CO and HCM knowledge is an advantage, and finance or supply chain backgrounds are highly valued for the relevant modules.

Requirement Analysis & Design

• Analyse, map and document business processes to align with SAP best practices.

System Configuration

• Customise SAP modules (functional design) together with the SAP vendor to meet specific business needs.

Testing & Validation

• Conduct unit testing, integration testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Documentation & Training

• Prepare functional specifications for developers and create training materials.
• Ensure functional specifications are reviewed and signed off by users.
• Update existing business process documentation when applicable to maintain an accurate documented baseline.

Support & Maintenance

• Provide support to users, resolve system issues and manage support tickets.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the SAP AMC vendor to deliver the required solutions.
• Ensure all defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are achieved by the support vendor.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree or related acceptable qualification, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration or Management Information Systems.
• Finance or Accounting degrees are highly valued for FI/CO roles; Supply Chain backgrounds benefit MM or SD roles.
• SAP Certified Application Associate for S/4HANA is a must.
• Other official SAP certifications (Associate, Professional or Expert level) are a plus.

Work Experience

• 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience or prior SAP implementation experience.
• Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA is a must.
• Experience working in East Africa is a plus.
• Experience with project lifecycle management, UAT, data migration and documentation.

Additional Requirements

• Detailed understanding of the assigned SAP modules (FI/CO, HCM, MM, PP, PM, QA, SD or SAC). In-depth FI/CO and HCM knowledge is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of industry processes such as Procure-to-Pay and Order-to-Cash.

Technical Skills

• SAP S/4HANA configuration: Configuring, modifying and implementing modules based on business requirements.
• System setup: Setting up organisational structures, master data and workflows.
• Functional specifications: Writing specifications and business cases where required.
• Gap analysis: Gathering requirements and mapping business processes to SAP functionality.
• Troubleshooting: Resolving system errors and optimising inefficient business processes.
• End-user training: Training users on SAP system functionality.

Soft Skills

• Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to bridge technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Translation: Turning “business talk” into clear functional specifications.
• Simplifying complexity: Explaining technical solutions clearly to non-technical users.
• Business understanding: Knowing how each department operates so requirements map correctly to SAP.
• Vendor management: Holding the support vendor to agreed SLAs.
