UETCL is a public limited company fully owned by the Government of Uganda, licensed as System Operator, for the high voltage transmission grid, bulk power supply, import and export of power, and optic fibre infrastructure.

Its vision is to be Eastern Africa’s leading electricity transmission company. Its head office is on Hannington Road, Kampala.

The Design Engineer develops and updates engineering drawings for implementation of UETCL’s Grid Investment Plan.

Key Result Areas

• Participate in preparing short, medium and long-term transmission network development plans.
• Prepare electrical designs, bills of quantities, cost-benefit analyses and tender documents and specifications for new transmission lines, in line with engineering standards and procurement guidelines.
• Prepare and review design calculations, specifications and drawings for transmission lines and substations, working with end-user departments on upgrades, changes and renovations.
• Support identification of optimal substation sites and line routes.
• Provide technical support on required notifications on the transmission grid.
• Inspect and correct discrepancies between as-built drawings and actual installations by contractors.

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
• 4 years’ work experience in planning and design of power systems (transmission lines and substations).
• A person of integrity, highly motivated, innovative, proactive and a committed team player.

Added Advantage

• Autodesk professional certification.
• Knowledge of PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower.

Technical Skills

• Power system design: Transmission lines and substations.
• CAD: Autodesk tools.
• PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower: Line and tower design.
• Tender documents: BoQs and specifications.

Soft Skills

The successful candidate will be offered a contract subject to Ministry of Public Service guidelines on the Rationalization of Government Institutions. Pay is not stated.
