About The Company

CorpsAfrica is an international nonprofit, registered in the United States as a 501(c)(3) organisation and headquartered in Washington, DC, that lets young Africans serve as volunteers in their own countries along the lines of the Peace Corps model. It was founded in 2011 by Liz Fanning, a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, after young Moroccans told her they wanted to serve their own communities but could not join a programme open only to Americans.

CorpsAfrica/Uganda was established in 2023 with support from the Mastercard Foundation, and its first cohort served in 2023-2024. The programme held its inaugural Pitch Day in Kampala in June 2024, bringing together 130 people from 54 organisations to raise funds for Volunteer projects. In 2026 the Uganda programme appointed a new Country Director and opened recruitment for a new Volunteer cohort with a special focus on refugee and Ugandan youth, working on livelihoods, resilience and economic opportunity.

About The Role

The Communications Officer – Uganda is the storyteller and public face of CorpsAfrica/Uganda. Working closely with the Country Director and the Global Support Office, you will find and develop stories about Volunteers, host communities, projects and partnerships, then turn them into news and impact stories, newsletters, press releases, reports, social media campaigns, photos and videos. You will also keep the Uganda web content accurate and look after media relationships.

What sets this role apart is how much of it happens in the field. You will travel regularly to Volunteer communities to interview Volunteers and residents and to film and photograph projects, then edit that material yourself. You will support Volunteer recruitment at universities and career fairs, produce materials for Pitch Day, trainings and Close of Service events, and train Volunteers and staff in storytelling, photography, social media and branding.

Benefits & Application

Benefits

CorpsAfrica offers a competitive, comprehensive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and aligned with local standards. The advert does not state a salary figure, and the application form asks for your desired salary.

Why Apply

  • You will be the lead communications voice for a young country programme, founded in 2023, so you can shape how CorpsAfrica/Uganda is seen from an early stage.
  • The role covers writing, digital, media, design, photography and video, giving you a broad portfolio in one job.
  • Regular field travel to Volunteer communities means your stories come from real projects, not desk research.
  • You work directly with the Country Director and CorpsAfrica’s Global Support Office in Washington, DC.
  • The new Volunteer cohort’s focus on refugee and Ugandan youth offers powerful, under-told stories.
  • You will design and deliver training, which builds facilitation skills alongside communications expertise.
  • CorpsAfrica operates across many African countries, opening doors to wider international NGO careers.

How To Apply

Apply online through CorpsAfrica’s recruitment portal: Communications Officer – Uganda application form. You will need to submit a cover letter highlighting your relevant qualifications and experience, an updated résumé, and links to or attachments of three writing samples such as news or feature stories, articles, press releases, newsletters or web content.

The form also asks for your address, desired salary, earliest start date, references with contact details, a description of your relevant experience, and confirmation that you are authorised to work in Uganda without company sponsorship. A website, blog or portfolio link is optional. Only complete applications will be considered. The deadline is Thursday, 15 October 2026.

Application Tips

  • Choose three writing samples that show range: for example one feature or impact story, one press release and one piece of web or social content.
  • Add a portfolio link with your photos and videos, ideally from field or community settings, because visual storytelling is a core part of the role.
  • Gather your references, desired salary and earliest start date before you open the form, as all are mandatory fields.
  • In your cover letter, mention CorpsAfrica/Uganda’s community-led model and the new refugee and youth focus, and pitch one story idea.
  • Show social media results with numbers, such as follower growth, engagement rates or campaign reach.
  • Mention any Ugandan languages you speak, since they are an advantage for interviewing communities.
  • Submit before Thursday, 15 October 2026, and double-check every required field because incomplete applications are not considered.
