UgaLumber Company Ltd is a value-driven timber processing company founded in 2023 as a strategic initiative of UTG Wood Mill Ltd, a collective of 20+ progressive commercial tree growers managing over 5,000 hectares of mature Pine and Eucalyptus plantations in Uganda. Based in Luwero District, UgaLumber was established to enhance market access for growers, produce quality timber products, and unlock Uganda’s forestry sector potential.

The Assistant Accountant- Finance & Administration will take ownership of day-to-day finance operations on the Odoo ERP system, working alongside the Finance and Administration Officer across accounting, costing, payroll, tax compliance, and management reporting. This is a hands-on role where you will post and reconcile daily transactions, maintain the sales register and accounts payable ageing, prepare statutory returns and schedules, and ensure accurate, reconciled records.

UgaLumber is a young, fast-growing company where the finance team is small and directly involved in operations. You will need practical knowledge of Ugandan taxation (PAYE, NSSF, withholding tax, VAT, EFRIS) and URA/NSSF online portals, working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs, and strong Excel skills (SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, linked multi-sheet workbooks). Hands-on experience with Odoo or another ERP/accounting package is strongly preferred. If you want a role where you own the numbers and can grow into a senior finance position, this is it.

• Post and reconcile daily transactions in Odoo ERP.
• Maintain the sales register and reconcile it daily.
• Maintain accounts payable ageing, supplier statements reconciliation, and payment vouchers supported by approved requisitions.
• Prepare statutory returns and schedules.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
• Professional accountancy progress: CPA (U)N or ACCA at least at intermediate or applied skills level completed.

Work Experience

• At least two (2) years of post-qualification accounting experience, including month-end closing, bank reconciliations, and payment vouchers supported roll.

Technical Knowledge

• Practical working knowledge of Ugandan taxation: PAYE, NSSF, withholding tax, VAT, EFRIS, and use of URA and NSSF online portals.
• Working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs.
• Hands-on experience with an ERP or accounting package (Odoo strongly preferred).
• Strong Excel skills: SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, linked multi-sheet workbooks and reconciliations.

Technical Skills

• ERP Accounting (Odoo): Ability to post, reconcile, and manage daily transactions within Odoo ERP, including sales, payables, and general ledger functions.
• Tax Compliance: Practical knowledge of PAYE, NSSF, withholding tax, VAT, and EFRIS, with hands-on experience filing through URA and NSSF online portals.
• Reconciliation & Reporting: Proficiency in daily sales register reconciliation, accounts payable ageing, supplier statement reconciliation, bank reconciliations, and month-end closing.
• IFRS for SMEs: Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-Sized Entities as applied in Uganda.
• Advanced Excel: Strong skills in SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, linked multi-sheet workbooks, and reconciliation templates.

Soft Skills

• Attention to Detail: Precision in transaction posting, reconciliation, and statutory return preparation to ensure accurate, audit-ready records.
• Ownership & Initiative: Ability to take full ownership of day-to-day finance operations in a small, hands-on finance team where you are directly accountable for the numbers.
• Organisation: Strong ability to manage daily, monthly, and statutory deadlines across multiple accounting workstreams simultaneously.
• Communication: Clear communication with the Finance and Administration Officer, suppliers, and tax authorities.
• Growth Mindset: Willingness to learn and grow into a senior finance position within a young, scaling company.
