About The Role

The Engineering Stores – Maintenance Controller is responsible for the safe, efficient, and well-organised running of the mechanical engineering store. You will make sure tools, spare parts, equipment, and materials are available on time, stored properly, and issued and moved correctly to support production and maintenance. You will keep inventory records accurate, follow store procedures and documentation rules, and hold high standards of housekeeping, safety, and security.

You will report to the Asset Care Specialist and work with maintenance and production teams every day. The role includes checking deliveries and approved delivery notes, running a first-in, first-out storage system, investigating stock discrepancies, inspecting parts for damage before they leave the shelves, and operating material handling equipment safely. You will also use lean methods to improve store layout and visual controls.

Requirements & Skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the day-to-day safe and efficient running of the mechanical engineering store.
  • Check and inspect that all tools are available and kept in the correct place, and that all equipment is in suitable working condition.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge of all equipment and ensure housekeeping, safety, and security procedures are followed in the store.
  • Ensure proper documentation of deliveries and approved delivery notes.
  • Maintain an orderly storage and retrieval system using first in, first out (FIFO) principles.
  • Keep the engineering store organised and clean.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, research discrepancies, and work with the relevant parties to correct them.
  • Ensure engineering store rules are followed, including the correct re-issue and sign-out procedure where applicable.
  • Operate all required material handling equipment to move items safely to the right work centre or building without damage.
  • Carry out a brief visual inspection of items for obvious damage (dents, dings, scratches) before moving them from outgoing shelves.
  • Notify the relevant area supervisor immediately if damage is found, and notify your own supervisor if damage occurs during movement or transport.
  • Apply lean exercises and recommend improvements to store floor organisation and visual control systems.
  • Follow store procedures for keeping racks and material handling equipment in good, safe working condition and free of dust and foreign objects.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Education

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or any other relevant discipline.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy environment, preferably FMCG.
  • Experience or exposure as an Engineering Stores Controller working with FMCG OEM suppliers.
  • Experience in production maintenance planning or maintenance execution is an added advantage.

Additional Requirements

  • SAP experience and knowledge is a key requirement for the role.
  • Familiarity with the FMCG supplier network for equipment such as Sidel, water systems, Husky, and SACMI.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while keeping a positive attitude and giving excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within instructions, set routines, and standard practices.
