The Uganda Heart Institute is an autonomous government entity established by the Uganda Heart Institute Act Cap 258 to undertake and coordinate the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in Uganda.

Based at Mulago National Specialised Hospital in Kampala, UHI is expanding its workforce to strengthen specialised cardiovascular services.

UHI is filling clinical, nursing, research, administration and support roles to boost its human resource capacity. Each post has its own salary scale, reporting line, duties and requirements in the official advert.

Clinical associate consultant posts generally need an MBChB, a relevant Master of Medicine, a fellowship or master’s in the cardiac specialty, registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and a valid practising licence, plus about three years as a Medical Officer.

Selected Requirements From the Advert

• Associate Consultant – Adult Cardiology (UHI 2 MED-1): MBChB, MMed Internal Medicine, fellowship or master’s in cardiology, UMDPC registration, valid licence, 3 years as Medical Officer.
• Medical Officer (UHI 4 MED-1): MBChB, MSc in Medicine (Internal Medicine), UMDPC registration and valid licence; appointees will train in a cardiology fellowship.
• Radiographer (UHI 5 MED 2): Diploma in Medical Radiology and Allied Health Professionals Council registration.
• Medical Laboratory Technician (UHI 5 MED 2): Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, GLP certificate, AHPC registration and licence, 1 year of experience.

• Epidemiologist (UHI 4 MED-1): MBChB or degree in epidemiology or a related field.
