Women In Technology Uganda (WITU) is a nationally recognised non-profit organisation founded in 2014 by CEO Barbara B. Mutabazi. Starting with just two computers and seven participants in Kampala, WITU has grown into one of Uganda’s leading women’s empowerment organisations, reaching over 50,000 women and girls across 56 districts. The organisation is headquartered at 12 Corporation Rise, Bukoto, Kampala, with additional offices in Mbarara and Northern Uganda.

The Sign Language Interpreter will provide Uganda Sign Language (USL) interpretation during WITU’s training sessions, career guidance, employment activities, and programme events in Kampala. You will help learners with hearing impairment understand instructions, assessments, and workplace information, and promote inclusive participation and accessibility throughout all programme activities.

Beyond interpretation, you will support accessible communication across training, career guidance, and employment activities, and maintain confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional standards at all times. This role is essential to WITU’s commitment to disability inclusion, ensuring that young women with hearing impairment have equal access to the digital skills, mentorship, and employment pathways that WITU provides to all participants.

• Provide Uganda Sign Language (USL) interpretation during training and programme activities.
• Support accessible communication in training, career guidance, and employment activities.
• Help learners understand instructions, assessments, and workplace information.
• Promote inclusive participation and accessibility for participants with hearing impairment.
• Maintain confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional standards.

Required Education

• Diploma or training in Sign Language Interpretation or a related field.

Work Experience

• Relevant interpretation experience.
• Experience working with persons with hearing impairment is an added advantage.

Additional Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in Uganda Sign Language (USL).
• Knowledge of disability inclusion and safeguarding.

Technical Skills

• Uganda Sign Language (USL): Demonstrated proficiency in USL for real-time interpretation in training, assessment, and workplace contexts.
• Interpretation Practice: Ability to interpret technical and educational content accurately, including digital skills terminology, career guidance, and programme instructions.

Soft Skills

• Disability Inclusion: Knowledge of disability inclusion principles and the ability to promote accessible, equitable participation in all programme activities.
• Safeguarding & Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, safeguarding standards, and professional ethics in all interactions with participants.
• Communication: Clear, patient, and culturally sensitive communication with learners, trainers, and programme staff.
• Adaptability: Ability to interpret across varied settings, from classroom training to career guidance sessions and employment activities.
