About The Company

Gulu University is a public university in Northern Uganda, set up under Statutory Instrument No. 31 of 2003 to drive equitable development in a region recovering from two decades of conflict. Its main campus is in Laroo Division, Gulu City, and it has grown to include campuses in Kitgum and Kotido, a presence in Hoima City and a constituent college project in Moroto that will extend university education to Karamoja.

The university describes itself as agriculturally focused and built around community transformation. Under Vice Chancellor Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru, its programmes are designed to serve rural communities: the Faculty of Medicine trains doctors for rural health facilities, and education programmes prepare teachers for rural schools and agricultural education. Its vision is to be the leading academic institution promoting community transformation and industrialisation for sustainable development.

Gulu University also runs major partnership projects, including the Mastercard Foundation-funded RETI project for refugee and host-community youth in Gulu, Lamwo and Kiryandongo, and the TAGDev 2.0 scholarship programme. As a public university, its staff are appointed on the Uganda public university (PU) salary scales.

About The Role

This recruitment fills ten academic posts. Eight are in the Faculty of Medicine, which trains doctors for rural health facilities across Northern Uganda: a Senior Lecturer in Reproductive Health (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) at PU5, Lecturers in Paediatrics & Child Health, Surgery, Public Health, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine and Anatomy at PU6.1, and a Teaching Assistant in Paediatrics & Child Health at PU7. Two further Lecturer posts at PU6.1 are in Secretarial and Administrative Studies and in Economics.

The advert does not list duties or minimum qualifications for each post and refers applicants to www.gu.ac.ug, where the details had not been posted when we checked on 5 October 2026. Academic staff at Ugandan public universities generally teach, supervise students, carry out research and contribute to community service, with specific requirements set by each faculty. Each post has only one vacancy, so target the one that best fits your specialisation.
