About The Role

The Deputy Programmes Controller/Presenter is a dual-function role combining programming leadership with on-air presenting at Arua One FM. On the programming side, the successful candidate will produce daily radio shows to grow audiences and generate revenue, prepare scripts, prep presenters, conduct on-air reviews, and manage day-to-day operations of the programming section including performance supervision and weekly planning meetings. On the presenting side, they will research, script, rehearse, and deliver their own allocated daily show, as well as moderate the Saturday political talk show.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can both create compelling radio content and perform on air. The role requires strong editorial judgement, the ability to identify topical issues across political, social, economic, cultural, religious, and civil society themes, and the skill to mobilise high-profile guests. The ideal candidate combines traditional broadcast expertise with modern digital publishing and multimedia production skills, reflecting Vision Group’s ongoing investment in visual radio and digital content strategies.

Requirements & Skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce daily radio shows to grow audiences and generate revenue by researching current events and affairs relevant to the target audience.
  • Create saleable segments for the respective shows.
  • Prepare and write scripts that will guide the presenters.
  • Prep the presenters before going on air.
  • Conduct daily on-air review of the shows.
  • Conduct on-air interviews with clients.
  • Research relevant educative topics for the daily show allocated to you.
  • Draw the show script and rehearse for on-air delivery.
  • Gather content where applicable, including vox pops and interviews.
  • Identify, prep, and host guests on the show where applicable.
  • Moderate the Saturday political talk show in an informative and competitive way to attract and maintain the target audience.
  • Identify topical issues to be discussed in the political programme.
  • Research the topic and script for the programme.
  • Mobilise guests relevant to the chosen topic from political, social, economic, cultural, religious, and civil society circles.
  • Keep a hard file for copies of the programme prep sheet approved and used.
  • Supervise performance of presenters on a daily basis.
  • Hold weekly programming review and planning meetings.
  • Submit weekly programming reports to the station manager.
  • Hold monthly one-on-one meetings with presenters.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.

Work Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in a competitive radio or TV content development environment.

  • Proficient in written and spoken Lugbarati and English (essential for Arua One FM’s trilingual broadcast format).
  • Expert use of WordPress, keywords, and Google Trends/Google News optimisation.
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics 4 for audience analytics.
  • Mobile Journalism (MoJo) skills: ability to shoot and edit video on phone using CapCut and Adobe Premiere Rush.
