About The Company

Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. Since 1943 it has worked to save, protect and transform lives in more than 100 countries, serving people based on need, not race, religion or nationality.

CRS delivers emergency response, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding programmes, mostly in partnership with local organisations. It welcomes staff of all faiths and secular traditions who share its values.

CRS Uganda runs development and humanitarian programmes from its Kampala office. This role sits in the Programming department and works with country, regional and global communications teams to raise the visibility of that work.

About The Role

The Senior Project Officer – Communications leads the development and production of high-quality, audience-focused communications products that show the impact, lessons and successes of CRS Uganda’s programmes. You will work with project teams, local partners and participants to gather content and turn it into case studies, success stories, videos, photos, social media posts and learning pieces for donors and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of Programming, you will plan content calendars around programme cycles, make sure everything follows CRS and donor branding and marking rules, and work with the Country Program leadership team and Regional Marketing Strategist on consistent messaging. Expect a lot of field time: the advert’s travel line was left unfinished, but it suggests travel of up to 40%. Proficiency in Luganda and other local languages is highly desired.

Requirements & Skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality photography, videography, interviews and testimonials in the field to show the impact of CRS Uganda’s programmes.
  • Work with project teams, local partners and participants to keep an active pipeline of human-interest stories and multimedia assets.
  • Write, design and produce visibility materials, including fact sheets, two-pagers, brochures, presentations and donor-facing marketing materials.
  • Create engaging multimedia content for CRS global social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Instagram, in coordination with project teams.
  • Ensure all materials follow CRS graphic identity guidelines and donor branding and marking requirements.
  • Provide hands-on communications support for events, including signage, handouts, photo and video coverage and visibility assets.
  • Develop simple content collection tools for field staff and partners, such as interview templates and photo and video guidance.
  • Give practical guidance and basic training to staff and partners on capturing quality photos, videos and stories in the field.
  • Manage relationships with local and national media, find opportunities to raise programme visibility, and package content and press materials for leadership.
  • Adapt the writing, tone and messaging of materials for different audiences, ensuring everything is properly formatted and ready to distribute.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field. Experience with INGOs or UN agencies is preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of marketing and communications experience, ideally for an NGO or another organisation in development and humanitarian programming.
  • A track record of developing and sharing information with a variety of target audiences.

Additional Requirements

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and desktop publishing tools.
  • Preferred: graphic design, photo editing and basic social video production using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) or Canva.

  • Open to Ugandan nationals only.
