About The Role

The Finance Officer will prepare and submit weekly and monthly Bank of Uganda returns, tax returns, payroll and statutory deductions. Reporting to the Finance Supervisor from Head Office, the role supports monthly BoU returns and General Ledger reconciliation schedules while maintaining compliance with the Finance Policy, Delegated Authority Framework and Tier II Credit Institution deadlines.

The post combines regulatory reporting with practical finance operations. The officer will prepare liquidity and BS100 schedules, handle URA filings, reconcile tax and payroll records, process statutory payments, support Core Banking System postings and record exceptions. The position also requires the officer to apply AML/CFT finance controls and escalate suspicious transactions to Compliance. Requirements & Skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the Weekly Liquidity Risk Return and submit it through the BSA portal within two working days of each reporting period.
  • Support preparation of Form BS100, the Monthly Statement of Assets and Liabilities, by providing schedules and reconciliations for submission by the 7th of each month.
  • Prepare and submit URA tax returns for PAYE, Withholding Tax, Value Added Tax and Corporate Income Tax.
  • Ensure PAYE, NSSF and Withholding Tax returns and payments are filed by the 15th of the month following the withholding.
  • Maintain tax reconciliations to the General Ledger, respond to URA queries, and prepare monthly journals for tax provisions and statutory deductions.
  • Process payroll and statutory deductions accurately and on time, and maintain payroll records reconciled to the General Ledger.
  • Ensure NSSF contributions are remitted monthly at 15% of monthly emoluments, comprising 10% employer and 5% employee contributions, in accordance with the NSSF Act.
  • Assist with General Ledger reconciliation schedules and post transactions within the Core Banking System as required.
  • Log exceptions and control breaches in the Exceptions Register, adhere to the Delegated Authority Framework, apply AML/CFT finance controls, and escalate suspicious transactions to Compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field from a recognised university.
  • CPA (U) or ACCA, completed or in progress; a tax qualification is an added advantage.

Work Experience

  • At least two to three years of relevant experience in finance, tax or payroll, preferably in a bank or financial institution.

Additional Requirements

  • Good knowledge of Uganda tax laws covering PAYE, Withholding Tax, VAT and Corporate Income Tax, plus the NSSF Act.
  • Working knowledge of Bank of Uganda regulatory returns and the BSA portal.
  • High attention to detail, ability to meet strict statutory deadlines and a high level of integrity.
