How to write an application letter in Uganda

  1. Your address, phone and email at the top, then the date.
  2. The employer's title and address, for example The Human Resource Manager.
  3. A RE: line with the exact job title and any reference number from the advert.
  4. Three short paragraphs: the job you are applying for, your best proof, and a request for an interview.
  5. "Yours faithfully" after "Dear Sir/Madam". "Yours sincerely" when you know their name.

How long should an application letter be?

One page. Three or four short paragraphs is enough.

Should I handwrite my application letter?

Only if the advert asks for a handwritten letter. Otherwise send a typed PDF or Word file.

Is a cover letter the same as an application letter?

In Uganda the two names are used for the same thing: the one-page letter you send with your CV.
