Management Trainee – Systems Administrator at NITA-U
The National Information Technology Authority, Uganda (NITA-U) is hiring a Management Trainee Systems Administrator in the Data Centre Department in Kampala. This is a temporary position assisting in the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of Government collaboration software, data-centre infrastructure, and digital services across multiple data centres. The role provides Tier 2/3 technical support 24/7/365 and involves system monitoring, automation scripting, application deployment, and infrastructure maintenance. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 6 months of hands-on IT experience. About The Role
The Management Trainee Systems Administrator will assist in the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of Government collaboration software, data-centre infrastructure, and related digital services across different data centres. The role provides 24/7/365 Tier 2/3 technical support and involves hands-on work with servers, storage, cloud platforms, virtualization, and automation tools.
This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for IT graduates to gain real-world data-centre and systems administration experience within Uganda’s national IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all hardware, applications, services, and operating systems in the Data Centre.
- Develop dashboards and operational reports for system availability, resource utilization, and service performance.
- Participate in staging, testing, deployment, UAT, and technical handover of applications and infrastructure.
- Develop scripts and automation tools for system monitoring, reporting, data processing, and routine tasks.
- Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for internal and external customers 24/7/365.
- Support development of application policies and procedures and monitor compliance.
- Ensure server operating systems, storage, and applications are up to date with patches and antivirus updates.
- Support implementation and integration of Data Centre applications, storage systems, cloud, and virtualization platforms.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Professional certifications in Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Huawei, AWS, or equivalent are an added advantage.
Work Experience
- At least 6 months of hands-on working experience in an IT role.

Technical Skills
- Systems Administration: Linux or Windows Server, data-centre operations, networking.
- Cloud & Virtualization: Cloud computing, virtualization platforms, storage, and databases.
- Scripting: Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or comparable (added advantage).
- Containers: Docker and application deployment tools (added advantage).
- Monitoring: Infrastructure monitoring, cybersecurity, and AI exposure.

- Documentation: Technical documentation and report writing.
- Troubleshooting: Structured problem-solving approach.
