About the Program
The Leaders in Teaching Uganda Program is a five-year Mastercard Foundation initiative aimed at transforming secondary education in Uganda by improving the quality of teaching and learning.
Implemented under the Ministry of Education and Sports, the program is delivered through a consortium including Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF), UNICEF, British Council, VVOB, Edukans International Uganda, Brainwave Careers Uganda, STiR Education, PEAS Uganda, Teach For Uganda, and FENU.
The program invests in the next generation of female STEM teachers through fully-funded scholarships covering the entire duration of study.
Eligibility Requirements
- Female Ugandan citizens, females with refugee status, or females with disabilities residing in Uganda
- Young women aged 18-35 years
- Must have secured admission to pursue a Bachelor of Science with Education (BSc-Ed)
- STEM subject combination: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Agriculture, or ICT/Computer Studies
- Must demonstrate genuine financial need
- Strong commitment to pursuing a career in teaching in secondary education
Note: In-service Science and Mathematics teachers upgrading to BSc-Ed are also encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Benefits
Beneficiaries are required to serve in the teaching profession for a minimum of 2 years after completing their studies.
